Jazz bassist and singer Charlie Pyne brings her quartet to Hertford BEAM at 7:30pm on May 1st. Their 2024 album 'Nature Is A Mother', the follow-up to ‘Dancing Shadows’ from 2019, is a collection of original compositions that chart a contemplative course through magnetic contemporary jazz, featuring powerful vocals with bold lyrics, taking in elements of both Latin American and classical influence with folk undertones.

The quartet is made up of experienced musicians who have performed internationally on such iconic stages as the Royal Festival Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, the Purcell Room, Pizza Express Jazz Club, and Jazz In The Round.

Charlie Pyne has worked with the Ilario Ferrari Trio, Down for the Count Swing Orchestra, Issie Barratt’s Interchange, and Yazz Ahmed’s ‘Polyhymnia’.

Liam Dunachie is one of the most in-demand pianists and Hammond organists in the UK, a regular fixture in jazz clubs playing alongside UK greats like Tony Kofi, Alex Garnett and Art Themen. Luke Pinkstone is a London based saxophonist and woodwind player. His work spans across jazz and pop, and has previously worked with Hackney Colliery Band, Molotov Jukebox, Elio Pace, and the Down For The Count swing orchestra. He is in demand as a session musician and is also writing new material for his own jazz quartet project.

Ben Handysides is a versatile musician primarily known as a drummer and cellist. He is a key member of the Right Here, Right Now Quartet, led by trumpeter Charlotte Keeffe, known for free improvisation performing at venues like Cafe Oto and various UK jazz festivals.

The Charlie Pyne Quartet will be supported by a Hertford-based jazz band playing a short set of energetic jazz standards. This event will form part of the Hertford Jazz Festival 2026.
