Overview

Step-Free Access

Our entire site offers step-free access throughout. From the main entrance, you can reach all Stages, Screens, bars and toilets without any steps. We also provide dedicated viewing areas for wheelchair users in all stages and screens.

Hearing Access Technology

Our fire alarm has flashing lights. We have a hearing loop in Stage One and Stage Two and have multiple subtitled films and captioned plays throughout the year.

Visual Support

Glass doors have contrast markings. Some parts of the venue have low lighting. There is audio descriptive commentary on most films we screen and headsets are available upon request at the bar.

Essential Companion Policy

We have a complimentary ticket policy for essential companions of standard ticket holders. Please note that children must be accompanied by a paying ticket holder at all times, whether that adult is a carer or otherwise. Please be prepared to present the relevant documentation to support your complimentary ticket request upon arrival.

Public Transport

You can get to BEAM by bus and train. There are bus stops located at Mill Bridge, just outside the venue; services to and from Stevenage, Ware, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Broxbourne can all be accessed from here. For details on bus routes from Mill Bridge, visit Intalink. 

The nearest train station is Hertford East. The train station is 0.40 miles/0.64km away. Hertford East is step-free. Hertford North is not step-free.

There are several taxi firms in the area, some of which have wheelchair accessible vehicles. Find out more >

Driving

There is a drop-off point at the main entrance with a dropped kerb. We don’t have our own car park, but several public car parks are just a short walk away. The nearest Blue Badge bays are in the St Andrew Street Car Park, with additional bays available at other nearby locations.

Navigating BEAM

Arrival

The route from the street to our main entrance is step free, with a dropped kerb for easy access. The main entrance has an automatic sliding door. Our side entrance into the Kitchen Bar is also step free and fitted with an automatic sliding door.

Support for Blind and Partially Sighted People

We have contrast markings on all glass doors. Our glass windows do not have contrast markings. Some parts of the venue have low lighting.

Public Lift

We have one public lift providing access to all visitor floors. Lift dimensions are available on request. The lift announces each floor, and its buttons feature raised numbers and letters. Floor numbers are also clearly displayed inside the lift.

Self-Service Ticketing Kiosk

From the main entrance to the kiosk, there is step-free access. There will always be a team member available to assist with ticketing enquiries at the kiosk.

Accessible Performances

We have a complimentary ticket policy for essential companions for adults who require additional assistance on-site. Some of our performances include captioning, audio-description, British Sign Language interpretation, relaxed shows and touch tours.

Audience Experience

Our Welcome Team are always on hand to support disabled visitors. Some shows and films include audio description, with headsets available when required. We also provide designated seating areas in our auditoria for guests with access needs, with essential companions seated alongside.

Kitchen Bar

From the main entrance and side entrance to the bar, there is step-free access. There is a dropped bar section at both ends of the bar. The menu is offered in large print. There is low volume background music.

Screen Bar

The Screen Bar is on the first floor and can be reached by the lift, which has step-free access from the main entrance. There is a dropped section at the end of the bar.

Accessible Toilets

We have accessible public toilets located in the foyer. All facilities meet current regulations and include handrails. No RADAR key is required for entry.

Changing Places

We have a Changing Places toilet located in the foyer, with step‑free access from the main entrance. This facility is not permanently staffed. For details on transfer direction, dimensions, hoist capacity or available mobility equipment, please get in touch.

Accessible Support during your Visit

Accessibility Equipment

We have a hearing loop in Stage One and Stage Two. Assistant dogs are allowed in the venue. The nearest grassy area for assistant dogs to use is to the left of the venue.

SEND Equipment

We are able to offer a range of supportive items, such as ear defenders, booster seats, fidget toys and a sensory tent and chill-out space during most Relaxed Performances.

Emergency Evacuation Procedures

We have emergency evacuation procedures for disabled visitors. The fire alarm has flashing lights.

Customer Care Support

Some staff have disability awareness training, as well as Next Generation Text or RELAY training.
