Rohan Kanawade’s delicate feature debut explores queer identities, tradition and grief in a rural community in India.

Upon the death of his father, Anand (Bhushaan Manoj), a Mumbai call-centre worker, returns to his home village of rural Maharashtra to observe the traditional ten-day mourning ritual.

Amidst the steadfast familial pressures to marry, Anand reconnects with his childhood friend Balya (Suraaj Suman), who faces similar scrutiny as an unmarried man.

Providing each other a sense of relief, the pair grow closer over the mourning period, culminating in a tender romance.

Cactus Pears premiered at Sundance 2025 where it won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic competition.

Two Black Boys in Paradise (15)

An animated version of Dean Atta’s poem sees two boys journey into a world of love and self-acceptance – a paradise for the pair to share.

Two Black Boys in Paradise has a running time of 9 minutes.
